Exceptional quality Japanese Hojicha. This hojicha is used the high quality second picked tea leaf during the harvest season of each year (in June), and the tea leaf is rich in amino acid. Therefore, it has good aroma and a nutty, earthy & roasted flavor.
Hojicha is a tea made by roasting tea leaves. Since the roasting temperature is around 200 degrees Celsius the leaf color tints from green to reddish brown and the amino acid theanine disappears. Instead, some are transformed into a substance called pyrazine. Pyrazine is an aroma component that not only enriches the aroma of roasted green tea, but also has health benefits such as improving blood flow.
